Lots of people are talking about how super models aren’t so big anymore, that they don’t really exist like they once did, and that a lot of figures from the world of fitness are coming in to take over. Is this really happening?
Check out these for/against reasons for why the ’supermodel’ might be finished.
Pro Reason 1 — Celebrities, Not Supermodels
For some reason, back around the late 1990s, celebrities started being the ones sporting all the latest fashion and being seen often in it. They set the tone, they’re the ones who make a new designer famous, and now they’re appearing on the front covers of the fashion magazines. And celebrities don’t have to adhere to prevailing trends in the fashion industry as much.
In Favor Two — Do We Still Have Super Models?
Now, models come from the internet or get discovered in crazy ways. The original way of ‘making’ a supermodel just doesn’t really happen anymore, and it’s harder to break out of the fashion industry and into the ‘celebrity’ industry than it ever was before. So the chances of a fitness model breaking through are actually a lot higher.
Why Not Number One: Most Guys Still Enjoy the Traditional Female Beauty Idea
For a really large majority of men, any visible muscle — even if it’s leaned muscle and not ‘bulky’ muscle, is too much. When they watch models videos online, they aren’t searching for babes with a lot of strength — it’s strictly the 20th-century definition of female beauty right here.
Why Not, Number 2: It’s Rare to See A Fitness Model Make it Huge
It’s not that the fitness industry itself is just a little niche, but the idea that it can produce supermodel quality babes is a relatively new one. There are some publications that are making the leap from ‘fitness’ to ‘fitness and fashion’, and those are where you’ll need to look for the future stars, but it’s still a ways off.

Gyms are massively overrated. Maybe you are going to one now, or you had a great experience with one before, but let me tell you that there are plenty of reasons to give up the gym and find another way to work out.
If you love the gym, this isn’t going to convince you of much, but if you are a bit sick of it, read these 5 reasons and then toss your membership.
#5: Prices are Sickeningly High.
If you’re a student and you get a cheaper student gym with your university card, consider yourself very lucky. I had one, once, and it cost me next to nothing for an awesome, bright, airy gym that I loved. Once I moved to a big city, though? Forget it – hundreds a month, and not even close to as nice.
#4: You Don’t Want to Become a “Gym Rat”. Ever.
People sometimes come to the gym so often that they literally lose their minds, forgetting that the gym is a venue to getting in shape, not the be all and end all of their social calendar. If your gym is full of these people, be warned – you could become one, too.
#3: Do You Enjoy Covering Yourself in Other People’s Sweat?
Sure, the paper towels (or dirty towels brought from home) and the little spray bottles are there, but really loads of people just don’t bother to wipe down the machines they’ve been using before. You can block it out of your mind, but that only works until you sit down on a machine that is dripping with sweat and realize it is definitely not your own.
#2: Repetition Breeds Contempt.
A good thing about the initial gym experience is that you can build up a routine: you go in, do the exercises you need to do, and then leave. But after a few months, unless you’ve become addicted to the effects of your workout, you will realize that staring at that same TV over and over, no matter what’s on – well, it is boring. And after a while, boring becomes annoying.
#1: Welcome to a World Without Limits.
So you made it – you finally pulled yourself free from the glorified indentured servitude also known as ‘working out in a gym’. Once the initial high of extreme happiness wears off, you’ll be faced with an unfamiliar emotion – freedom. Run anywhere you want. Do whatever exercises you feel like, in your own house, out in a park, or in the damn street, if you want. But don’t go back to paying $100+ every few weeks for the privilege of sweating very close to a bunch of other people. It’s just not worth it.
The Herald has learned that Madonna’s management was looking at booking the Material Girl for dates in both Calgary and Edmonton early next year but they ultimately backed out of Alberta altogether.
Gene Simmons will make his third appearance in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada this year when he returns on December 6 to cut the ribbon on a gigantic new electronics store.
Simmons will be signing autographs and welcoming adoring fans into the new Future Shop at South Edmonton.
In the video, you see the security team member wheel the new KITT off the flatbed truck and then exit the car (still running) to return to the truck. With the door still open, some impulsive car thief ran out and hopped in the car and took off.
According to those in attendance, this was a legitimate theft, and not a publicity stunt. If it was then they hired nothing but actors for the security team and PR people because moments after the video, the shit hits the fan and everyone is clearly upset.
Its been almost a week and no one has exposed it as publicity, and its not said if it was recovered.
Britney Spears’ ex Kevin Federline and tiny Vern Troyer headline the Downtown Tent Party, which runs until July 26. From mashup DJs to hard rock collectives, the party will rage every night in a tent outside the Bank Ultra Lounge at Jasper and 109 Street.
It’s turned out to be an iphone weekend with news about the upcoming release of the iphone. Latest rumors are that Apple has diverted a significant amount of its initial iPhone 3G Canadian deliveries to Europe in retribution for the carrier’s steep rate plans, which at similar prices offer a third fewer minutes and limited data compared to AT&T.
Though smarting for the recent loss of content partner NBC, iPod maker Apple Inc. will nonetheless continue its charge towards dominance in the digital video market this week by launching its first array of TV programming on the Canadian iTunes Store.
People familiar with the matter tell ArsTechnica that programming from a handful of Canadian television networks will start cropping up on the localized version of the Apple digital download service as early as Tuesday afternoon, with a hard launch slated for Wednesday.
“As 2007 winds to a close, Apple plans to give an early Christmas gift to our Canadian friends in the form of (a few) TV shows being added to the iTunes Store,” wrote Ars’ Jacqui Cheng. “Of course, with all things iTunes (and Apple), these exact days can easily get pushed, but the shows are expected to make their debut at most within the next couple of weeks.”
Among the programs expected to be part of the first wave of Canadian TV content are shows from local networks CBC and CTV, in addition to an assortment of programming from some select US networks.
Rumors are starting to come out regarding Canada seeing the iPhone by mid-October but the price is pretty insulting considering our dollar is so close.
Would you pay $800 for a iPhone? I want one but I wouldn’t pay that much!
Apple is planning to begin selling its Apple iPhone through Rogers Wireless in Canada by mid-October, technology news site Digital Journal reported this week. The site said a source from within Canadian luxury retailer Holt Renfew said it would be receiving the phone within two weeks, and it would retail in the country for $799.
If true, such a high price for the phone may turn off many buyers. Although prices are typically higher in Canada, a weak dollar has brought the currencies to near parity, and Canadian consumers may balk at paying the premium. Apple would not comment on the report, and a Rogers Wireless representative would neither confirm nor deny it.
